Harlem entrepreneur and former corporate exec Olivia Smashum established Blue Olive Resort out of her desire to create a women’s fashion line of resort wear that share fundamental qualities; fashion that is effortless, sensual, and versatile.  For Olivia, who spent twenty years in the fast-paced world of entertainment, fashion has always been a personal values statement, a reflection of her creativity and confidence and as a way to stand out in a very competitive environment.  These values are among those that she has passed along to her daughter Alex, and they are the same ones that brought them together as partners to launch BLUE OLIVE.

The mother daughter team share the belief that natural, effortless style is organic, drawn from the heart and passed down from one generation to the next.  They trace their roots to the Gullah people of the Carolina sea-islands where both generations spent childhood days breathing the salt air, roaming the seashore, and taking in the sights and sounds of the marshes.  These scenes have shaped much of Alex’s work as an artist.  Today the pair draw their inspiration for the line from the blue sky, the crisp white surf and the deep sensation of endless summer. Their vision is enhanced by travel favorites:  Cuba, Spain, Morocco, the Italian cities of Florence and Venice, South Beach and of course, the City of Charleston. Blue Olive Resort is the ideal medium to give voice to the authentic stories of their lives.
